The main features of the Korean community at that time were both a strong nationalistic identity and the conviction to be a chosen people. Koreans were longing since 1905 to be freed from the Japanese domination and to take revenge on their enemies. Koreans had also a long shamanist tradition of practicing sexual purification rituals. At that time these ritual got mixed with more recent messianic Christian concepts. In such stressful and confuse environment a profusion of spiritual movements and sects appeared as a response to these specific expectations.

Let’s imagine then, in this tumultuous war time a charismatic narcissistic preacher coming to cross the path of shamanists who had recently been converted to Christianity and were longing for a messiah…

Let’s imagine this clever myth maniac preacher who was hungry for power and fame, in such a hectic environment. Heroes were desperately expected to appear and wild spiritualists were coming out with all kinds of strange revelations…

Let’s then imagine this man eloquently proclaiming to nationalist spiritual seekers he had directly inherited Jesus’ ultimate mission. He was the one who would establish God’s kingdom starting of course with Korea. He would purify through sexual rituals all human beings on earth (and later on those in the spiritual world too) …

Sun Myung Moon was that usurper who embodied all these original “qualifications”. He then increased his manipulating power ever since. He seriously came to believe that he was indeed the Messiah. The feedback he received from his disciples became for him a clear confirmation and an undeniable proof of that! He became intoxicated by the total controlling power he got over his flock. He insistently demanded to have absolute obedience from his followers.

A fascinating legend had to be set up! A glorious myth was then invented, beautifully shaped and day by day embellished. That legend was countless times remodeled to perfectly match with Sun Myung Moon’s cosmic messianic ambitions…and the credulous believers’ unrealistic expectations.

Can these unchecked lies and the following even bigger lies be served endlessly? Can deceit last forever?

No, that is not possible, on a long run. But, of course, it will go on as long as there will be people able to believe in messiahs’ increasingly deceitful fallacies! 

By the way, there were no really blind victims in the UM. There were only blind accomplices who had made an initial poor choice. I used to be one of them! Once I had accepted to listen to the seemingly beautiful song from Korean sirens, I got fascinated and addicted to it…

Until I finally realized and admitted that I was wholly off track from inception.
