TOWARD A PEACEFUL WORLD OF FREEDOM AND HAPPINESS?

Witnessing activities within the UM have seriously been slowing down lately. The passing of Rev Moon and the present infighting between the “True Family” have certainly become important contributive reasons for that lack of enthusiasm.

But one more profound and more fundamental reason for such lack of motivation might simply be the absence of anything really substantial and inspiring to witness about.

We actually hear more these days about heartbreaking testimonies from young second generation members who have been raised within the Unification movement and have left to escape from what they experienced as a mental prison.

The joyful world of Peace, freedom and happiness for all seems to take a bit of time to appear, while conflicts, authoritarianism and frustrations develop not only within the “True Family” but among obedient “blessed families” who can legitimately wonder why the endlessly repeated “messianic proclamations” never substantiated.

Only a closer examination and unbiased reflection on the methods used to achieve these proclaimed ideals could give answers and clearly explain the worrisome present reality.

What about this highly instructive extract from 1997:

Reverend Sun Myung Moon    New Yorker, February 13, 1997

“Your mission is only the territory of your relatives. How much easier it is for you compared to True Father’s course. You have absolutely no excuse. Those who have the confidence to fulfill your mission of accomplishing 3.6 million couples Blessing this year, show your hands. (Applause) 
Father wants Reverend Kwak to keep a baseball bat in his hand all the time and if he sees anyone neglecting their mission in this regard then he can freely use it. Particularly those who are sleeping and hiding, Reverend Kwak’s baseball bat will fall upon you at any time. Father is ordering all of us to make our absolute commitment to Reverend Kwak to accomplish the 3.6 million couples Blessing this year”.

Here are some questions one may ponder over:

• Isn’t it for the least an awkward and shocking strategy for a loving messiah to bless humankind?
• Why (as usual) make members feel guilty for TP’s difficult course?
• Is it necessary to corner members and make pressure on them to publicly agree?
• Are threat, induced fear, and authoritarian demand for absolute obedience the ingredients to promote Love, Peace and freedom?
• Can an extorted consent become a lasting motivation?
• Where are these 3.6 million couples whose blessing is commemorated every year?

Isn’t it time to courageously face and seriously question the so-called “God’s final strategy to establish His kingdom of Love and Peace”, according to Sun Myung Moon?

I know it’s a taboo and a pure heresy for faithful believers.

Truth however never fear cross-examination nor double checking. Isn’t it?

But this would unavoidably challenge the reality of the “glorious Second Coming” through Sun Myung Moon who claimed to have such a mission while his behavior obviously disproved his claim.

Here is actually the only and most liberating realization Unificationists could come to.

It personally took me quite a long time to reach there.
